Florida Studio Theater - Sarasota Woman's Club, 1917
The Sarasota Woman’s Club was designed by architect H.N. Hall and built by contractor George Lysat and was designed in the Tudor revival Style which is uncommon in Florida. Built for the Sarasota Woman’s Club it’s now home to Florida Studio Theater’s, Keating Theater. Florida Studio Theater is a wonderful small venue comprised of 5 different stages so a has a vast array of great theater & concerts.

St Armands Key & Circle
The land was purchased by John Ringling as the focal point for his Ringling Isles development and the causeway was completed in 1925. Unfortunatly the Florida land boom ended in 1926 then the Great Depression set in a few years later, so Ringlings Grand plans were never achieved until many years after his passing. The center of circular key now houses over 140 Shops and Restaurants and is a prime Sarasota tourist destination while the perimeter of the island is composed of luxury waterfront homes. Historic Asolo Theater, 1798 Asolo, Italy
5401 Bay Shore Rd, Sarasota, FL 34234
The Theater was built in 1798 in Asolo, Italy by Italian impresario Antonio Locatelli. It was dimaneled in 1930 and put in storge. In 1949 the Director of the Ringling Museum encouraged the State of Florida to purchase it and it shipped over from Italy and installed at the Ringling Museum. The Asolo opened for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail presented by the New York Opera in 1952. It’s clocated in the VIsitors Center of the Ringling Museum where the Asolo Repertory Company holds a few performances a year and classic films are also shown.

Sarasota Opera House, 1926 - 61 N. Pineapple Ave
designed by Roy A. Benjamin in the Mediterranean Revival Style Architecture and built by the GA Miller Construction Company for the A.B. Edwards Theater in 1926. In 1979 the building was purchased by the Sarasota Opera and rennovationed from 1982 to 1984.
The second major rennovation was completed in 2008 at a cost of $20 million and the Sarasota Opera reopened with Verdi's Rigoletto. See Wikipedia for more info.

Burns Court Cinema - 506 Burns Court
The Historic Burns Court Cinema is an small independant Art film house with 3 screens and home to Sarasota Film Society which even serves wine with your film for those so incliined. They also have a 2nd theater in Lakewood Ranch. If your tired of the sad programming at big box movie theaters this is the place for you.

Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 1969

The hall was designed by William Wesley Peters, of Taliesin Associated Architects, who used seashells as inspiration for the design. Currently under risk of being torn down for bayfront redevelopment.

Located opm Sanibel Island, FL
designed by Paul Ruldolph of the Sarasota School of architecture and is located on Sanibel Island, FL. A replica was recenly costructed and on display at the Ringling Museum. Additional info at sarasotaarchitecturalfoundation.org

Ringling Museum, 1926

designed by Dwight James Baum the Ringling Museum was built by John & Mable Ringling to house their extensive art collection next to their winter home, Ca' d'Zan. It was bequeathed to the sate of FLorida after John Ringling’s death on December 2, 1936. it is now the State Art Musem of Florida. Additional info on John Ringling

Mira Mar Apartments, 1923
Located on S Palm Avenue the Mira Mar Apartments were built by Scottish Industrialist Andrew McAnch and constructed by the W.R. Carving Co from Tampa in just 60 days. The Mira Mar Apartments were built just before the adjacent Mira Mar Hotel which was torn down in 1982 to create a parking garage. The apartments were converted to shops, restaurants and offices upstairs. Now heart of Palm Avenue shopping district.

Florida Studio Theater

Burns Court bungalows, 1924-1925
Most of the bungalows were designed by Thomas Reed Martin for developer Owen Burns in 1924-25 and several business are located in block as well as a few private residences. Burns Court Cinema is out of frame and home to the Sarasota FIlm Society which plays foreign & independant films. See Sarasota History Alive for more info.

Agilent Air announces 9 new destinations from SRQ. Departures to Baltimore and Asheville, N.C., are the first of nine new Allegiant routes to begin operation at the local airport. Coming in April 2019: Cleveland, Grand Rapids, Mich., Harrisburg, Pa., Columbus, Ohio, Nashville, Richmond and Syracuse.
